Jorge A. Muñiz, Founder

Ensemble CONCEPT/21 (EC/21) is a professional new music ensemble based in South Bend, Indiana that focuses on presenting music of the 21st century, with a special emphasis on composers of the Michiana region and the Greater Chicago area, all of which surrounds the vibrant city of South Bend, lying by the historic Saint Joseph river.  Ensemble CONCEPT/21 was founded by composer Jorge Muñiz in 2014  with the collaboration of some of the most distinguished professional musicians in the city. In the last seven years, Ensemble CONCEPT/21 has premiered over 60 new works by both young and established composers, also engaging in collaborations with regional, national and international institutions.  Carmen-Helena Téllez  joined Jorge Muñiz and Ensemble Concept/21 as Guest Conductor for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons and became its Artistic Director in the Fall of 2020. In 2023, Casey Robards joined Ensemble CONCEPT/21 as the new Artistic Director.

The Members of the Board

After the early years as an artists’ collective in residence at Indiana University South Bend,  Ensemble CONCEPT/21 became a full-fledged non profit 501 (c) 3 organization in 2019. The composers and educators in the collective now constitute the board of EC/21, and have added members of the greater community.
